Baby I’m back!!!

I know it’s been a while… what, like two years or so… but that is how life goes sometimes… I don’t have time for playing games like I used to… but I want to get back into doing more interviews with artist in the industry and posting about some great games soon…

I have been more an artist who digs games lately… but believe me I am still a gamer who digs art at heart.

Here are some samples of the works I have done in the game area… as you can see there has been a big progression over the time.

Up Close and Personal!

Halo Reach releases September 14, 2010. Win a Free copy at gamersdigart.com!

Win your own copy of Halo Reach!!!

How much do you like the Halo universe?  How much do you like playing Halo 3?  What if I told you and three friends could win your own copies of Halo Reach here at Gamersdigart.com It is very possible and easy to do. Starting August 13th, 2010 there will be a Halo 3 4 vs 4 tournament here on the site.

There is a will be a small registration fee of $5.00 USD.  The tournament will be open of anyone who can participate.  There is no age limit on this battle… but kids have your parents pay the fee (don’t swipe their card without them knowing about it!)

This is a great chance for you and your friends to put your team work and skill to the test.  We have given away multiple games here on the site, but this is the first time we are offering a contest that is not art related.

For registration details click here!

And the Winner is…

Tim Kelly

Mr. Kelly’s piece won based on many factors.  Sure it was awesome, but that won’t get it done all the time for the contest.  We love originality.  Who would have thought of Ico vs a Gears of War Locust before the contest started.  I love everyone’s choice of character.  I was worried we would have like 4-5 Master Chief’s Vs Kratos.  I want to say congratulations to all who entered.

The game version would look a little like this…

I would want to play that and some how figure out how in the world I would take that guy down…

Fan Boy’s Dream!

The first contest on this site has come and gone so let’s take a look at the results.  The title of the contest was Fanboy’s Dream.  So many gamers have gotten into heated debates (myself even at times) regarding which system is better.  Well, we took it another way and decided to create some art that depicts this epic conflict that goes back to the days of Sega Vs Nintendo.

The Fanboy’s Dream rules were simple.  Sign up an Register an account on Gamersdigart.com (this site)  illustrate a character that shows up on the Xbox line pitted in combat against a character from the Playstation brand.  Send it to us by email or post it in the Forum here. ‘Nuff Said let’s see some art.

First up: Dreno360(me)

Click here for a larger view.

Well I can’t win but wanted to do some art to promote the contest.  I mean it is a FREE game of the winner’s choice…I don’t think that happens anywhere, if so let me know! I choose Crackdown Vs Infamous.  The main agent in Crackdown vs Cole McGrath from Infamous.  Super powers vs super powers!   A gallery of my art can be found here.

Next up is : squeak117

Click here for a larger shot.

Squeak117 treated us with a Jak (from Jak and Daxter Vs The Stranger from Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath.  Both are great games for each corresponding system.  Great illustration Alex.  This is the best piece I have seen you create!  Pretty even fight here.  Both games had a huge variety of weapons to use.  Alex’s gallery can be found here.

Check this one out by: TimKelly

Tim gave us something to think about here.  The main protagonist from ICO vs a Locust Horde member.  Fair Fight? At first glance no…but consider Shadow of Colossus.  If that guy took down mountain sized baddies…this kid may do alright.  But I don’t the locust have any glowing weak spots so watch out youngster!  Tim’s full gallery can be found here.

And we have: Sinskin

Click here for a larger view.

The next battle is a spy vs spy tale.  Splinter Cell may have appeared on other consoles but his true home is on the Xbox.  The same thing could be said of Solid Snake.  His house resides on the PS3 for now.  Both of these characters some some great titles underneath their belt that is for sure!

Halfman halfcyborg: Lukedenby (more on this later)

Click here for a larger view.

Luke wows the crowd with the tiniest showdown! We have a Castle Crasher Knight taking on a Sack boy from Little big planet.  Expect swords, magic, large cats, costume built levels, and so much cuteness in character designs everyone is gonna explode with candy falling out of themselves.  Luke’s full gallery can be found here.

The last piece is from: Sylvok

Click here for a larger view.

James here has treated us to a cyborg showdown.  We have good ol’ Master Chief vs Grey Fox from Metal Gear Solid. Which metal man win win this battle.  Both have has excellent battles on the screen that is for sure.

Well that wraps up the entries.  The winner will be announced soon.  And remember the winner gets a FREE game of their choice.  This contest was created to inspire artist to illustrate something we normally wouldn’t see.  To push for new art to be created about a platform we all love : video games. Winners are selected not only on technique, but also creativity, composition and originality.  So basically you don’t have the be the hottest stuff to win a FREE game.  Put some thought into it as well! It goes a long way!

Also gamers check out the forum we have weekly challenges for art in there as well.  Our current weekly theme can be found here.

The next contest will be announced soon!  Thanks to all who have participated and we can’t wait to see more entries next time!

And the Winner is…

Got to go with the Glukkon on this one.  These guys are the true essence of evil and they have what it takes to be a villain for sure.

These Glukkons are only worried about getting more wealth through whatever means possible. For the rest of us, this means smoke‐producing factories, exploitation of natural resources, enslavement of indigenous cultures and slaughtering of any wildlife that stand in their way.

Evil… pure Evil as we know it to be!!!

This fantastic artwork was done by squeak117 from Australia.  (First International Winner!)

The game he chose was Gears of War 2.  When it comes out it’s all yours Squeak117!

The other three entries…

were all done by ~lukedenby.

He was one of the first to be interviewed here at gamersdigart.com. Here is that link.

Yes he submitted all three!  Awesome chap!  Hope he submits again!

I went with the glukkon because first: nice piece of art, but beyond that this was a true villain.  They hate all and are very selfish creatures by nature.

Vodka Drunkenski is a jerk for sure…but not a villain. A drunk yes, villain no.

The Koopa family has caused some problems in the mushroom family…but besides kidnap Princess Toadstool what have they really done.  They just prove Bowser needs to work on his skills with the ladies that’s all.

Earth Knight…from Shadow of Colossus…is vicious, cold, destructive but not a villain he be.  More of a natural force of destruction, sort of like a massively walking tornado…with a club!

Well that is all for now…I want to see more submissions!!!  A game!!! A Free Game is on the line…Brand New and wrapped in plastic waiting for YOU!!

Here is a reposting of October’s Contest Rules:

October’s Contest (since halloween is approaching) is to draw, paint, vector, or simply “Art” a monster/creature from a video game. It could be any video game, but the creepier the better. Monsters and creatures could range from anyone like the Nemesis in Resident Evil, the Locust or really any villain from Gears of War, to a character from Devil may Cry. (also Ninja Gaiden had some crazy monsters/creatures in there!)

So the theme is monsters/creatures and the creepier the better! Hope to see some more entries! Think about it…November has some really cool games coming out! Who here wouldn’t want Gears of War 2 or Left 4 Dead for Free?  What about Fable 2????

Third contest results: Villains

September’s contest was titled Villains.  It was simple, open and easy to do. Illustrate a villain from any video game past or present, win a free game call it a day. I won’t say who illustrated each entry this time, I will simply post the entries. I will announce the winner on Friday 10/3/2008. Thanks to all who entered!

No explanation really needed here. Everyone in gaming knows this villainous family from the mario universe. Not to be confused with Bowser Jr, this is the Koopa Family!

This is a Glukkon from the Oddworld universe.

-Click here to read more about Glukkons

Glukkons are the ruthless, heartless capitalists that are the management of the Magog Cartel, the achetypal industrial family with a stronghold on Mudos.

This is Vodka Drunkenski from the old school game Super punch out (not to be confused with punch out and Mike Tyson’s punch out!)

This is the Earth Knight – Gaius – Terrestris Veritas – Mammal guardian 2 from Shadow of  the Colossus! What a great game!

There you have it! I will announce the winning illustration on Friday! The winner will receive free game of their choice!

Third Contest deadline approaching…

Alrighty! Been a long time since the last post.  (Been kinda busy playing games….) but just wanted to say the deadline to the third contest titled Villains will be do September 30.  Win yourself a Free Game!

Illustrate a villain from any video game…plain and simple!

Looking forward to the entries!  Oh yeah, my 360 started it’s own blog!

http://www.360voice.com/tag/dreno360

And the winner is…

Whew…this was a lot harder the second time around. Again thanks to all the artist who spent their time on creating some cool video game art! I appreciate it, and the readers appreciate it! I created this blog, and future site as something for the average gamer /artist could participate in.

You don’t have to be best artist in the world to win the monthly contest. Soon I will be adding some video game trivia questions in for a chance to win some other cool prizes as well so stay tuned for that!

Ok…thanks to all that have commented on the pieces.  It’s good to see artist get support! As stated in the previous blog, the comments were used to HELP me decide (not decide) on who the winner will be.

When looking at the criteria on who should win I looked at a couple of things. Originality. Not just in the characters chosen (people all chose fantastic battles and I would love to see them all unfold!) By originality I looked at the poses that the characters where in and the overall illustration. I am an artist so I love seeing NEW things.  Using poses that are pre-existing may look cool, however I see it as an easy way out…

If I am shelling out 60 bucks (plus tax and shipping) of my hard my hard earned cash I don’t want to see something that could have been photo-manipulated, by taking two pieces of art that already existed.  It may look cool, but I want to see artist push beyond what it easy…bottom line I want NEW art. Reference is needed but don’t just follow it, use it to create something totally brand spankin’ NEW! To anyone who submitted DO NOT take any offense to what was written. All the pieces submitted were great!

Alright enough talk. And the winner based on my thoughts posted before is…

yes…kalel06!! He took these characters and made them his own. At first glance when I saw it…I thought…pretty cool and left it at that. Then as an artist I looked at how I would have done this piece. It must have taken him forever (not that you have to work forever on a piece…) but the little details start to surface.

The patterns in Nariko’s outfit, the scars on Kratos, the details on both their weapons. I searched long and hard to see if there was anything similar to this piece on the web, and there wasn’t. He went ground up and crafted a nice little VS piece. I also love the flames in the background and the lighting effects used on the characters and their weapons…the chains alone must have taken forever.  I drew both these characters myself long before this tournament, so I really understand the details in both.  (Nariko’s hair alone is amazing!)

He took his time and was patient in putting together a well crafted piece for the contest. So congrats to Kalel06!

As promised his game will be shipped and he chose…

The average gamer able to win a brand new 60.00 game for their hard efforts in creating some art…the is the reason why I created the contest!

Once again, the contest for September is called Villains. Choose an antagonist, villain, thug, or bad guy from any game past or present to illustrate. Think about originality…don’t just send images that look like

Because I can already see these poses done by the people who originally illustrated it. Don’t be limited by someone else’s ideas…push it beyond what is already done. Make it your own! Have your villain terrorizing a hero… it doesn’t have to be a single shot of a character. As long as the villain is the main focus of the illustration you have your shot at winning any game you want (60.00 max!!!) Deadline is September 30.

Thanks again!

Coming up…an interview with a Spook aka… the winner of the August contest Kalel06!

Second Contest Results…

Hello! Thanks to all who have participated in last month’s contest and I hope more will enter this month’s contest. I mean it is a Free game on the line after all…I would participate if it wasn’t my own contest!

Once again the contest was titled VS. Two characters from two different games in battle with one another!

Ok on with the entries.

This is an illustration from last month’s contest winner entry SangheiliArtist.

Here we have Samus Aran from Metroid going against good ‘ol Master Chief from the Halo Series. This would be a good battle!

Click me to see the battle unfold!

The Second entry was from GarfunkelTheApostle.

In this illustration we have Cloud from the ever popular Final Fantasy VII versus Bowyer. Who the heck is Bowyer? He was a boss in Super Mario RPG from the SNES (back in the day!!!) Talk about two unlikely characters meeting up!

The third entry was from the being known as Kalel06.  Some say he was raised on a farm in Kansas by Martha and Jonathan Kent. I don’t know, but he does live in Metropolis!

In the left corner weighing in at about 98 pounds we have the beautiful, but deadly Nariko from Heavenly Sword!  In the right corner, starting the ring on fire, weighing in at 235 pounds is Kratos from the God of War series. Let’s get it on! Ding! Ding! Ding!

The fourth entry was from Anasazinyx.

Here we have a spore creature from the game Spore VS Ragnaros from World of Warcraft. My money is on the Spore creature. Watch out for the little guys!  Hey four small ghostbusters took down the Giant Stay Puft Marsh Mellow Man!

The fifth contestant was from the talented greenbeanbaby.

Here are two characters that look like they are having more fun together than actually battling!!!  I guess some people love fighting! We have Toadette from the Mario Universe and a character from Little Big Planet on the PS3!

The last illustration submitted didn’t quite follow all the guidelines.  It was one character from a Video game…and the other character…from well who knows. It can’t be considered for the contest but I wanted to show it anyways! Remember read the rules! It could cost you a game! Thanks Eric for the piece!

From the crazy mind of the digitalsnowmen.

We have a Mutant Pug Named Shiela vs a ODST Soldier from Halo 3. So bizarre, strange, yet I can’t stop looking at it!

Thanks to all who have made a submission to the second contest! Well who wins??

I will let the you guys and gals help me to decide! One vote per email is allowed. Voting closes Friday 9/5/2008 11:59 pm. When leaving a comment simply say who are voting for! Remember Pug vs ODST can’t count! (Sorry digitalsnowmen!)  I will make the final decision, but hearing from others will help!

Moving on to this month’s Contest!

September’s Contest is called Villains! Draw, paint, sketch, vector, or illustrate your favorite villain from any video game past or present! Due September 30th!
